Shopping Report!

Had a little visit with Sephora yesterday and managed to get out with my checking account mostly unscathed.  Grabbed some new things to try, and re-stocked up on things I love!

Here’s the line-up:

New Purchases

Hourglass Immaculate Foundation

Hourglass Immaculate Foundation

Why I picked it up: It’s oil-free, matte, with a powder finish.

Possible Concerns: I don’t qualify as having oily skin, which this foundation is designed for. But I do get a bit shiny at times, so I’m hoping that I’m able to keep my skin hydrated enough that this doesn’t feel drying, and that I’m able to still bask in all it’s matte glory!

Details: I was color matched, and went home with Porcelain. This line isn’t known for being the most affordable, in fact it’s one of the higher-priced lines.. especially for certain products. You can take this baby home with you, from Sephora, for a whopping $55. This is a cruelty free product!

Shiseido Ultimate Sun Protection Cream+: SPF 50+

Shiseido SPF

Why I picked it up: High SPF, contains glycerin (a humectant- great for hydration), and dimethicone (a silicone- great slip, and texture).

Possible Concerns: As with any sun protection product, you have to use a certain amount to actually reap the UV protection benefits. Will that amount cause me to be greasy? The silicone based sun protectants generally don’t leave me greasy (which is why I love them) but higher SPFs can cause greasiness. Hoping the two aspects cancel each other out!

Details: This was picked up in the aisle of impulse-purchases. You know the waiting line where they put “mini-products”?? I swear that zone is like an obstacle course for beauty-shoppers. Can you get out alive, with your savings account intact?? The paper insert claims this can also be used as a make-up base, most likely due to the dimethicone. You can get the full-size for $35.

Laura Mercier Lip Balm SPF 15

Why I picked it up: It has some sun-protection, smells great, and feels even better. This is one of the smoothest products I’ve found- to put on my lips.

Possible concerns: If you’re sensitive to SPF on your mouth, this may not be for you. Obviously check the ingredients to make sure you don’t have an allergy.

Details: I love this lip balm! Definitely my favorite daytime lip product! This is easily my sixth or seventh tube. It doesn’t last forever (maybe a few months), but that may be because I’m always wearing it. There isn’t really any color, maybe a VERY transparent pink with some slight gold iridescence. The best way I’ve heard it described is: “it looks like your natural lip, but better.” I couldn’t agree more! I use this as a stand alone product, or as a lip conditioner before I put on some lipstick. Definitely check this out, if you haven’t already! You can buy this fantastic product from Sephora for $20.

Dr. Dennis Gross Alpha Beta Peel- Extra Strength

Why I picked it up: Different exfoliating acids can benefit our skin in different ways. This mixes multiple types, for better results. You’ll be utilizing Glycolic, Salicylic (BHA), Lactic, Citric, Mandelic and Malic acid. The two-step process also includes antioxidants: Vitamin A, C, and E, CoQ10, and Reservatrol.

Possible concerns: If you haven’t used this product before, I would recommend using the regular strength first. If you have an allergy to any of the ingredients, please do not use this. Also, if you have extremely sensitive skin you may want to test this first, in a small patch by your jaw. An all-over face skin reaction doesn’t sound fun, for anybody.

Details: I have used this peel, on and off, for 5 years. Every time I restart it I always end up kicking myself, for not sticking with it. The results are that noticeable! This product makes me turn BRIGHT RED. I only use it at night, and often skip a day or two. Hint: cut the pads in half, and secure the other half in an air-tight baggie. It’s more than enough product, and you get more bang for your buck! Speaking of bucks- this product ranges from $15-$145 (depending on how many pads you buy). This is a cruelty free product!

More Deets:

I took home a sample of Hourglass Illusion Tinted Moisturizer in both Shell and Ivory. I’ve heard it’s a heavier coverage tinted moisturizer- and I’ve fallen in love with other Hourglass products. I’m hoping one of these colors will work for me!
